'Dump Squad' street gang sentenced to 25 years in prison

A Newport News man who allegedly was a member of the 'Dump Squad' street gang was sentenced to 25 years in prison Thursday, according to a release from the U.S. Attorney's Office in Norfolk.

Monquay Williams, 21, pleaded guilty on Oct. 21 to participation in a racketeering conspiracy, assault with a dangerous weapon and assault resulting in serious bodily injuries, and brandishing a firearm in relation to a crime of violence, according to the release.

Williams and other gang members were involved in a fight in the parking lot of the Atmosphere Club on Dec. 24, 2007, according to a statement of facts filed with Williams' plea agreement. According the release, several gang members began to beat Tony Vaughan, who was later shot and killed by another gang member, according to the release."
